About Us

Marvin C. Strickland, Sr. (Strick) was involved in funeral services for most of his life. He began in 1930 at the age of 16 by assisting his uncle, Edward Grissom, in his funeral home in Kissimmee, Florida. When he graduated from high school he began working in the business full time. In 1940 he moved to Roxboro and worked for Woody Funeral Home on South Main Street until late 1945. In 1946 he and Kelly Brewer bought the Spencer Funeral Home which was located on Court Street and operated it together until 1952.

On March 15, 1954, Strickland Funeral Home, Inc. was founded by Marvin C. Strickland, Sr. at 600 North Main Street where he served the needs of Person and surrounding counties. Strickland Funeral Home moved to it's current location in 1981 at 1314 North Main Street which is the former location of North Roxboro Baptist Church. Marvin C. Strickland, Sr. passed away in 1988 and his sons, M. C., Jr. and Charles continued the business. When Charles died in 1995, M. C., Jr. assumed leadership of the business until his death in 2001 at which time his son, Marvin, III took over the business and continues to emphasize quality and personal service for you and your family that his grandfather started.

Funeral service seems to be a family tradition with the Strickland’s. Marvin C. Strickland, Sr. is related by marriage to the Brown family of Raleigh, whose ancestors opened the first funeral home in North Carolina. The Strickland family has begun a tradition of their own, having served the needs of Roxboro and Person County residents since 1940 and is the oldest established funeral home in the city of Roxboro. Strickland’s is now in its third generation of Strickland Family ownership.

Strickland Funeral Home is continuing to serve the families of Roxboro and Person County by expanding his current funeral home with Robby W. Jones. They have partnered to establish Strickland & Jones Funeral Services. They have built a state of the art funeral home located at 1810 Durham Rd in Roxboro. They will continue to offer the same friendly and compassionate service just as they have done in the past but at a different location. They believe in “Celebrating Life… One Family at a Time”.
