EDWIN HOLT DAVIS, SR. of 239 Badger Circle, Roxboro, NC died Tuesday morning, July 3, 2018 at Duke University Hospital.
Mr. Davis was born July 23, 1932 at home on the family farm in the Hurdle Mills community of Person County, NC son of the late Dr. Oscar Gold & Cannie Marion Holt Davis and was husband of 64 years to Mary Katherine O’Briant Davis who survives. He was educated at Hurdle Mills and Helena schools and later took classes at PCC where he also taught Fly Fishing. Mr. Davis was retired from The Gates Company after 45 years of service, was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, served as Lions Club President, Zone Chairman, was a Sunday School teacher and Deacon for thirty years at Westwood Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the US Army where he was attached to the 822nd Engineer Aviation Battalion. He was inducted into the service on November 3, 1953 and served in Korea from May 1, 1954 until July 17, 1954 and in Guam from July 24, 1954 until August 30, 1955 and then went on to be honorably discharged on September 22, 1956.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Terry Marshall Davis of Roxboro, NC, brother, Harold G. Davis & wife, Alida of Wilmington, NC, brother-in-law, Thomas M. O’Briant of Priest River, ID and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis is preceded in death by a son, Edwin Holt “Eddy” Davis, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Roxboro Baptist Church with the Dr. Dupree Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in the Burchwood cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests Friday, July 6, from 10:00 till 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Tony Creson, Grant Davis, Jay Foushee, Johnny Harris, Chuck Long, Chuck Oakley, Gordon Powell, and Barry Tucker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Danny Bumpass, Gail Clayton, Mable Cleveland, Reid Davis, Jean Featherston, John Foushee, Nancy Garrett, Steve Garrett, Rosa Lee Gates, Keith Hobgood, Leon Long, Thomas Long, Sr., Waylon Newton, Jimmy Street, Winkie Wilkins, and James Woody.
