Elaine Pugh Bowling

SHELBY ELAINE PUGH BOWLING age 75, of 901 Ridge Road, Roxboro, NC died Wednesday morning, June 19, 2019 at Duke Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Bowling was born December 16, 1943 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Henry Wallace & Emma Louise Evans Pugh and was wife of 43 years to the late Marvin Jones Bowling, Sr.  She was retired from Person Memorial Hospital after 28 years of nursing, and was a member of Theresa Baptist Church.  Mrs. Bowling enjoyed playing piano, playing Rook, online shopping, watching movies, was president of the Resident’s Council at Roxboro Healthcare and Rehab Center where she was also Spelling Bee champion.  She was an avid animal lover (especially cats), previously taught Sunday School and worked the nursery at Longhurst Methodist Church, served as a Notary for many years, and was a prayer warrior for those in need.

Surviving are three children, Tina B. Clayton & husband, Rodney of Oxford, NC, Joel T. Bowling & wife, Karla of Garner, NC, Christopher H. Bowling of Dallas, TX, grandsons, Dillon Clayton, Brett Clayton both of Oxford, NC, and sister, Jeannie P. Womack & husband, Sam of Roxboro, NC.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bowling is preceded in death by two children, Infant Bowling, and Marvin Jones “Jay” Bowling, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Theresa Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 3:00 till 4:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.   

Pallbearers will be Brett Clayton, Dillon Clayton, Randall Howard, Aaron Lombard, William Long, and Marty Perkins.  Honorary pallbearer will be A.J. Wilkerson.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the Person County Animal Shelter, 2103 Chub Lake Road, Roxboro, NC 27574.
