Eugene Leciejewski

Born in Duisburg, Germany on May 27, 1930 to the late Martha Leciejewski, Franz Eugen Xavier Leciejewski passed away on October 11, 2019.

Known to most as Eugene, this special member of our community leaves behind a daughter, Brigitte Leciejewski of Timberlake, NC, niece, Petra Leciejewski, 2nd cousin, Gerda Csipek & husband, Horst all of Germany, as well as many dear friends. In addition to his mother Eugene is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Wilma, son Eugene Gunter Leciejewski, a veteran of the US Air Force, and brother Gunter Leciejewski.

Completing his Engineering degree from Textilingenieurschule in Krefeld, Germany in 1955, Eugene moved to the United States as an employee of Sidney Blumenthal & Co. Inc. in 1956. Along with his wife and daughter, Eugene became a US citizen in 1962.

In 1970, Eugene and his family moved to Roxboro, where he began his 21 year career with Collins and Aikman Corp.

A man of faith, both Eugene and Wilma were dedicated members of Roxboro Presbyterian Church and graciously shared their talent in the church choir. Those who were fortunate enjoyed Eugene's version of Silent Night, performed in both English and German, during the holiday season.

Eugene also served as an Elder for over 20 years and assisted others in their spiritual growth through his actions, words, and teachings.

An avid fisherman, Eugene could often be found on the lake. His faithful wife journeyed with him always and friends benefited from his catch at annual fish fry events.

Tennis trophies from local tournaments line his shelves as this was another favorite pastime he enjoyed with friends.

Eugene had a love of music and would hum and sing melodious tunes. His friends were serenaded with an accented Happy Birthday song by telephone, if not in person, each year.

For these special attributes and his contagious smile, Eugene will be greatly missed by many. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roxboro Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 419, Roxboro, NC 27573.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Roxboro Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Evan Walker officiating.  The family will receive friends and guests after the service in the church fellowship hall.
