Mollie Breeze Obituary

Mollie Sandra Allen Breeze—otherwise known as “Sticks” to her late brother Dock, “Bae” to family and friends, “Pollack” to those boys down at the Telephone Company, and “Nana” to the people who loved her the most—died on Wednesday afternoon, January 9, 2019 at the age of 78.

The people in her life were numerous, and her family always joked about the fact that she was famous. You may have known her as the woman who once drove your school bus as a kid or the waitress who took your order on a Friday night at the Homestead Steakhouse or maybe even the person you ran into at the Handi Cupboard every Saturday after she purchased her morning paper—regardless of how you knew her—Mollie was and always will be a Person County legend.

She is survived by her two loving daughters, LaNita Breeze and Robin Coleman, two siblings, Rebecca Allen Mooney and Nickie Walter Allen, and four granddaughters, Alexandra Breeze Clayton-Porter, Carter Elizabeth Coleman, Anderson Breeze Clayton, and Zoe Montgomery Coleman, whom she loved more than anything else in the world.  She took extreme pride in her family, and her grandchildren never went anywhere in Roxboro without introducing themselves by saying, “I’m Mollie Breeze’s granddaughter.”

She loved many, many things. Among those were the Tar Heels, her green recliner, a “throw down” hand in Rook, Ugg fur slippers, the Game Show Network, butterflies, sweet tea, any movie with John Wayne, late nights with Andrew Cuomo, making chocolate pies for people, The Lone Ranger, The Tampa Bay Rays, and a good cigarette. Mollie was a firm believer in having a “squirrel” of money somewhere on you, incase you ever found yourself in need of it and that no one should ever be out of the house past midnight (apparently nothing good ever happened past 12). She despised a telephone, constantly calling it stupid because the ringer never worked, when really 99% of the time she had accidentally put it on Do Not Disturb. Mollie was always on the go, and in her lifetime, she managed to hit a total of two garage doors, 8 mailboxes, and countless other vehicles.

Mollie was truly a character, unpredictable, and a fighter. She had an unparalleled generosity and would give you the last $2 she had, because after all, according to her, it was better to give money away than for it to be stolen or lost somewhere.

She taught her family that the gift of all gifts was to see ourselves as others see us, and we can only hope that she sees the love and gratitude that so many people had for her. The family is grateful to everyone who has stopped to share a story of a time when Mollie maybe took out one of their mailboxes, gave them their first big break, or made them one of her famous chocolate pies. She will live on in many hearts, minds, thoughts, prayers, and laughs forever.

Mollie is reunited with her son and favorite dance partner, Rusty Laws Breeze and is preceded by two siblings, sister Nannie Ruth Allen Hall and brother, Dock Anderson Allen.

Following her wishes, funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Allen Cherry officiating. Private burial will follow in the Allen Family Cemetery. Our family will receive friends and guests from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at the funeral home and other times at the home of LaNita Breeze and Mark Clayton, 546 Flat River Church Road, Roxboro, NC.

And as for flowers, Mollie once said, “Y’all better not turn away a single one. I want all that’s due me.”
