Carl "Bill" William Small

CARL WILLIAM “BILL” SMALL age 85, of 116 Log Home Road, Timberlake, NC passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 14, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Small was born May 18, 1936 in Cabarrus County, NC, son of the late Carl Jason & Wilma Elizabeth Calloway Small and was husband of 54 years to the late Ruth Price Small.  He graduated from Concord High School in 1954.  Bill worked for Winn Dixie for 25 years and then became owner/operator of North Main IGA grocery for 13 years until his retirement in 1997.  He was a member of Somerset Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir. 

Bill enjoyed bowling and fishing and was very competitive.  He was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed square dancing and playing Canasta with his wife and closest friends, Jenny, Artis, and Margaret Gregory. 

Surviving are two children, Rhonda Small Combs & husband Bob of Richmond, VA, Kelly Small & wife, Amanda of Timberlake, NC, five grandchildren, Jason Johnson (Nikkitta), Brian Simpson (Luisa), Justin Wolz, Deirdre Wolz, Zach Small, six great grandchildren, and brother, Gary Small & wife, Jamie of Kannapolis, NC.

In addition to his parents and wife Mr. Small is preceded in death by a son, Curtis William Small, daughter, Ellen Small Ishamael, two sisters, Barbara King, Marilyn Eason, brother, Richard Small, and son-in-law, John Ishamael.  

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Somerset Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Gearhart officiating.  Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 11:00 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of Kelly & Amanda Small, 143 Misty Hollow Road, Timberlake, NC.

Pallbearers will be Bob Combs, Brian Simpson, Zach Small, Joel Walker, Lenny Weaver, and Justin Wolz.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to Somerset Baptist Church, 141 Somerset Church Road, Roxboro, NC 27573.
