CARROLL JULAIN “CHUCK” SUMNER, age 79, of 600 Clayton Ave., Roxboro, NC with his beloved wife by his side went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, March 21, 2020.
Mr. Sumner was born July 27, 1940 in Hahira, GA, son of the late Willie Herman & Elizabeth Griffin Sumner and was husband of nearly 60 years to Melinda Long Sumner who survives. He was retired as a self-employed millwright and along with his wife owned and operated The Flea Market Shoppe on Main Street from 1981 – 2006, was a member of Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church, and a veteran of the US Army where he served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to auctions, and playing checkers.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, William “Tommy” Sumner, (Cindy), Jonathan “Andy” Sumner, (Jackie) all of Roxboro, NC, brother, Robert Sumner, (Rosalyn) of Lake Park, GA, two sisters, Margaret Blansfield of Bear, DE, Beth McClellan, (Randall) of Valdosta, GA, four grandchildren, Will Sumner, (Kaitlyn), Ashley Dunevant, (Jeremy), Sara Sumner, Drew Sumner all of Roxboro, NC, five great grandchildren, Jaden Sumner, Gracie Dunevant, Aubrey Dunevant, Mistie Dunevant, Marea Dunevant, and honorary son, Mark Jackson, (Allison) of Birmingham, AL.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sumner is preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Sumner and Roy Sumner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2020 at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Shattuck and David Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests at the church for one hour prior to the service and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Dunevant, Tommy Eggleston, Jamie Harris, Chris Long, Drew Sumner, and Will Sumner.

Due to the Executive Order regarding COVID-19, attendance will be limited to 100 people.
