Christine Lee (Whitt) Overby

CHRISTINE LEE WHITT OVERBY, age 88, of 5660 Durham Road, Roxboro, NC died Thursday morning, March 5, 2020 at Duke Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Overby was born December 27, 1931 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Perry & Louvenia Poole Whitt and was wife of the late Hiter Owen Overby.  She was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. after more than 30 years of service and attended First Pentecostal Church.  She enjoyed cooking, yard sales and spending time with her family.

Surviving are four children, Jack Thaxton (Judy), Donald Thaxton (Cathy), Johnny Thaxton, Sr. (Lisa), Elsie Barker (Earl), four sisters, Mary F. Bowes, Rose Slaughter (Corky), Betty Terrell (Teddy Ramsey), Ella Redd (Glenn Clayton), six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Overby is preceded in death by a sister, Sally Triplett, two brothers, Otha Whitt, Rommie Whitt, and granddaughter, Leslie Thaxton Childress.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Matthew Wilmoth officiating.  Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 12:00 till 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of Jack & Judy Thaxton, 3822 Halifax Road, Roxboro, NC.

Pallbearers will be Bart Brinkley, Tommy Harris, Jr., Jeremy Hutchins, Choun Morales, Glenda Morales, Randy Pulliam, Charles Terrell, and Willie Wrenn.
