Delma Lucille (Evans) Smallwood

DELMA LUCILLE EVANS SMALLWOOD, age 82, of 2225 Sparger Road, Durham, NC died Wednesday morning, March 31, 2021 at her home.

Mrs. Smallwood was born May 14, 1938 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Tristam Earl & Mae Elizabeth Clayton Evans and was wife of 60 years to Horace Rector “Dick” Smallwood who survives.  She was retired from the Durham Clinic and was a member of McMannen United Methodist Church.  Delma enjoyed reading, playing games, Rook, puzzles, shopping, bird watching from her sun room, cooking, traveling, the beach, Christmas, fellowship with all people, and spending time with her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Stephen Thomas Smallwood & wife, Tanya of Raleigh, NC, Edward Evans Smallwood & wife, Sondra of Charlotte, NC, six grandchildren, Joshua Smallwood, Rachel Smallwood, Holly Milligan, Kyle Brugger, Sydney Smallwood, Van Smallwood, and great grandson, Everest Milligan. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smallwood is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Evans McLean.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Ed Priestaf officiating.  Please observe CDC guidelines by wearing a mask and social distancing.  Interment will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Brugger, Tom Miller, Ed Smallwood, Josh Smallwood, Steve Smallwood, and Van Smallwood.
