Ernest Norman Tate, Sr.

ERNEST NORMAN TATE, SR. age 74, of 427 North Lamar Street, Roxboro, NC died Tuesday night, June 8, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Tate was born December 17, 1946 in Buncombe County, NC, son of the late John Dudley & Frances Treadway Tate and was husband of 57 years to Peggy Joyce Collins Tate who survives. He was self-employed and was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.  Norman enjoyed NASCAR, watching westerns, supporting St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and his flower gardens.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Frances Tate Sorensen & husband, Brad, Ernie Tate, Jr. & wife, Shannon all of Roxboro, NC, grandson, Ethan Chase Tate, three sisters, Barbara Turner, June Styles both of Asheville, NC, Brenda McFadden of TN, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Sammy Allen and the Rev. Michael Bryant officiating.  Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:30 till 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Bryant, John Carter, Wiley Emmert, Jonathan Hamrick, Brad Sorensen, and Byron Whitfield.
