Joseph Scott Tatum, III

JOSEPH SCOTT TATUM, III age 67, of 1565 John Brewer Road, Roxboro, NC died Saturday morning, January 7, 2023 at his home.

Mr. Tatum was born July 10, 1955 in Person County, NC, son of the late Joseph Scott Tatum, Jr. & Gladys Louise Harris Tatum who survives and was husband of 50 years to Sharon Elaine Jacques Tatum who also survives.  He was employed with Piedmont Community College as the welding instructor and was of the Baptist faith.

Scott was a competition rifleman and had won numerous competitions and awards.  He enjoyed gunsmithing, racing his 1974 Vega dragster and also being a spectator, playing guitar and banjo.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two children, Joseph Scott Tatum, IV (Melinda Zimmerman), Shanna Tatum Tanksley & husband, Drew, two grandchildren, Jonah Scott Tatum, and Benjamin Reid Tanksley.

In addition to his father, Mr. Tatum is preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Louise Tatum.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. M. David Chambers and the Rev. Drew Tanksley officiating.  Interment will follow in the Tillman Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Bob Ackers, Johnny Harris, Russell Hutchins, Donnie Loftis, Scott Spencer, and Andy Walker.  Honorary pallbearers will be John Harris, David McFarland, and Jerry Whitfield. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 185, Timberlake, NC 27583.
