Margaret Ann (Oakley) O'Briant

MARGARET OAKLEY O’BRIANT, age 92, of Roxboro, NC passed away Sunday night, September 3, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. O’Briant was born August 10, 1931 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late John William Oakley, Sr. & Gracie Alma Clayton Oakley and was wife of 61 years to the late George Beechum O’Briant, Sr.  She was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. and was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.

Margaret enjoyed cooking, reading, tending her flowers, her church, and being with her family.

Surviving are two children, Kim O. Tingen & husband, David, Chance O’Briant all of Roxboro, NC, daughter-in-law, Tracey H. O'Briant of Timberlake, NC, eight grandchildren, James O’Briant, Alison O’Briant, Brittany Mabry & husband, Bruce, Kristen Bayliff & husband, Josh, Caleb Tingen, Brooklyn Tingen, Tristin O’Briant, Haleigh O’Briant, great granddaughter, Gracyn Bayliff, two sisters, Willie Suitt, Barbara Loftis, brother, Carl Oakley & wife, Lillian, and sister-in-law, Marie Oakley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. O’Briant is preceded in death by a son, George Beechum “Butch” O’Briant, Jr., grandson, Austin O’Briant, sisters, Christine Oakley, Lucille Eastwood Turner, Evon Duncan, Virginia Clayton, Sue Latta, brothers, James Oakley, J.W. Oakley, Jr., Raymond Oakley, and Lex Samuel Oakley. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at North Roxboro Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Durand officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oakley Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for two hours prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Chance O’Briant, 585 City Lake Road, Roxboro, NC.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Jones, Adam Oakley, James O’Briant, Tristin O’Briant, Tyler Solomon, and Caleb Tingen.  Honorary pallbearers will be David Adkins, Josh Bayliff, Bruce Mabry, Reed Marston, Greg Oakley, and Ted Wright.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to North Roxboro Baptist Church, 115 School Street, Roxboro, NC 27573.
