Shirley Mae (Solomon) Hoops

SHIRLEY MAE SOLOMON REAVES HOOPS age 84, of 5660 Durham Road, Roxboro, NC passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, February 15, 2023 at Roxboro Assisted Living with her family by her side.  Mrs. Hoops was born May 14, 1938 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late William Thomas & Elizabeth Jane “Liza” Reaves Solomon and was wife of ten years to the late Henry Harold Hoops.

Prior to retirement she was employed with Longhurst Cotton Mill and Dan River Mills and also worked on the family farm.  She was a Christian woman of the Baptist faith and enjoyed Bingo, word search puzzles, gardening, and singing gospel music.

Surviving are four children, Dottie Hutchins, Kathy Boyd, Edwin Glenn “Skeeter” Reaves, Billy Allen Reaves, son/grandson, Kenneth Wright, sister, Gracie Lee Stone, brother, Harold Solomon & wife, Susie, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, Stanley Reaves & wife, Joan, Herman Reaves, sisters-in-law, Wilma Bowling, Regina Gray, Martha Reaves, Deborah Woody (who was also her special care giver), and a host of nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hoops is preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Reaves, Esther Walker, Rachel Rimmer, seven brothers, Eddie Solomon, Roy Lee Solomon, Thomas Solomon, Swanson Solomon, Stanley Solomon, Jacob Solomon, and Zenkom Solomon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Mike Whitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Paul-Solomon Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2023 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Katrina Walker, 1935 Lucy Garrett Road, Roxboro, NC.

Pallbearers will be Donald Hutchins, Stevie Hutchins, Joseph Irby, Edward Rimmer, Brad Walker, and Kenneth Wright.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Amos, Patrick Reaves, Kevin Rimmer, and Michael Rimmer.
