JERRY THOMAS LONG, age 82, of 211 Country Club Road Roxboro, NC died Wednesday afternoon, February 19, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Long was born May 29, 1937 in Person County, NC, son of the late Walter Avery & Sallie Bet Bowes Long and was husband of 50 years to Edna Earl Long who survives. He was retired form Collins & Aikman Corp. after 40 years of service and was a member of Theresa Baptist Church. Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar, and going to his grandchildren’s ballgames.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, David T. Long & wife, Sharon of Alton, VA, Rose L. Carver, Wendy L. Jones & husband, David all of Roxboro, NC, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother, Robert Long & wife, Paula of Alton, VA, three sisters, Rosa Lee Baird & husband, Howard, Lois Adcock all of Oxford, NC, and Louise Wilson of Alton, VA.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Long is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Lee Long, grandson, Austin Lee Long, brother, Peter Long, and two sisters, Sis Bohannon, and Lorene Shotwell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 at Theresa Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Brown, Rev. Ben Francis and Rev. Tim Bowes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests for two hours prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren, Michael Gray, Carlos Grimes, Ethan Jones, Brent Long, Nicholas Long, and Tyler Long. Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Cowell, Carson Grimes, Trevor Grimes, Ada Jones, Daniel Jones, Paislee Jones, Avery Long, Connor Long, Grace Long, Mikayla Long, Mary Long, and Zoie Long.
