June Frances (Garrett) Bowes

JUNE FRANCES GARRETT BOWES, age 88, of 1615 Cates Mill Road, Roxboro, NC passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2024 at her home with her loving family by her side. 

Mrs. Bowes was born January 26, 1936 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Stephen Radford & Phoebe Ann Hicks Garrett and was wife of the late Edgar Reade “Meece” Bowes.  She graduated from Helena High School in 1954 and Watts School of Nursing in 1957.  She then made a career in nursing and retired from Ridge Road Medical Group after 35 years of service, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as treasurer and on various other committees.

June enjoyed singing in the church choir, sewing, bird watching, visiting with people, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was the queen of word search puzzles.   

Surviving are three children, Donnie R. Bowes & wife, Wendy of Timberlake, NC, Joyce B. Whitfield & husband, Phillip of Hurdle Mills, NC, Ed B. Bowes & wife, Tonya of Roxboro, NC, five grandchildren, Garrett Whitfield & wife, Anna, Colby Whitfield & wife, Brannsyn, Josh Bowes, Garrison Perkins & husband, Alex, Jackson Bowes, three great-grandchildren, Avery Whitfield, Jase Whitfield, Ridge Perkins, two brothers, John Mark Garrett, and Ray E. Garrett.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bowes is preceded in death by three sisters, Doris G. Patterson, Elizabeth G. Harris, Emogene G. Carver, and two brothers, Billy R. Garrett, and Steve O. Garrett.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. M. David Chambers officiating.  Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery at a later date.  The family will receive friends and guests from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
